Main Scripture: Matthew 9:9-13

Introduction
This Bible teaching from The End Time Message The Scroll (TETMTS) Ministries is based on Matthew 9:9–13, where Christ Jesus says, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” In this message, we look at the spiritual meaning of “the sick” and “the Doctor,” and how this reveals who truly belongs to THE ALMIGHTY GOD YAHWEH. At the end, you will be guided to our teaching “What It Means to Be Born Again and To Be Called a Christian” for further understanding on how to become a true Child of GOD.
[9] As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
[10] While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.
[11] When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
[12] On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
[13] But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Why Did Jesus Christ Give That Teaching, and What Does It Mean Today?
First, it should be clearly known that Christ Jesus did not come to die for ALL people on earth in the way many blind teachers present it. He did not come to call those who say they are “RIGHTEOUS,” as the Pharisees termed themselves. He came to call sinners, like Matthew and his friends the tax collectors.
Christ Jesus did not come to call those who are “healthy”; He came to call those who are sick.
The sick will always look for the doctor because they want to live and remain healthy. In the same way, the sinner will run in repentance to Christ Jesus, his Saviour, who will make him or her righteous.
But who are those who call themselves “righteous” or “Christians” when they have NOT gone to the Father (THE ALMIGHTY GOD YAHWEH) through the Saviour, Christ Jesus?
Who are those who are sick, but call themselves “healthy” when they have not gone to the doctor?
From here, a great separation appears between different kinds of people:
1. “The sick who continue to be healthy after running to the doctor for treatment.”
2. “The sick who go to the doctor, but after seeing him they still die.”
3. “The sick who call themselves healthy and do not want to see a doctor.”
4. “The sick who acknowledge they are sick and want a doctor, but have not yet met a doctor.”
5. “The sick who were treated previously by the doctor, became sick again, and have no chance to meet the doctor again.”
6. “The sick who were treated previously by the doctor, became sick again, went back to the doctor, and were treated again.”
Truly, those in category one—the sick who run to the doctor—will get well, and their lives will be saved. He will always be their doctor, the One who treats them whenever they become sick.
But what is the destiny of each of the categories given above? In the end, there are ONLY two outcomes: those who will live, and those who will die.
The Spiritual Meaning of the Six Categories
In His teaching, Christ Jesus was giving the spiritual meaning of what it means to be a true Child of THE ALMIGHTY GOD YAHWEH.
Category 1: The sick who run to the doctor and get treated
This group represents those destined for GOD’s Heavenly Kingdom, who run to Christ Jesus and accept Him as their Saviour. They follow without hesitation the instruction that Christ Jesus gave to Nicodemus: “You MUST be born again.” Truly, they will have life.
They are like the seeds that fell on the good soil and brought forth a harvest of a hundredfold (Mark 4:20).
Category 2: The sick who go to the doctor but still die
These represent the branches of the Vine that are cut off rather than pruned by the Gardener, and are thrown into the fire.
They are people who became born again but bear no fruit. They are cut off as worthless branches and cast into the fire (John 15:1–6).
Category 3: The sick who call themselves healthy and do not want to see a doctor.
These are people completely not meant for the Heavenly Kingdom of THE ALMIGHTY GOD YAHWEH. Even before they are born, they are marked by satan as his.
They are like the seeds that fell along the path, never given any chance to sprout to life, but immediately eaten up by the birds as soon as they are sown (Matthew 13:4, 18–19).
Category 4: The sick who acknowledge they are sick and want a doctor, but have not yet met a doctor
This group represents those who have the mark of THE ALMIGHTY GOD YAHWEH placed in them before they were born.
They are still lost in sin for a season, but they will come to know their Saviour—they will be Born Again—before the end time comes forth.
Category 5: The sick who were treated by the doctor, became sick again, and have no chance to meet the doctor again
These represent those who have tasted the goodness of THE ALMIGHTY GOD YAHWEH. They had the mark of GOD in them as His own before they were born. They received Christ Jesus as their Saviour (became Born Again), but then went back to sin.
They are those who try to “crucify” Christ again, as if He could be offered a second time on the cross. But that is impossible, because He has already died once, and will never be sacrificed again (Hebrews 6:6).
They are like the disobedient children of Israel who left Egypt and were destroyed by GOD YAHWEH Himself in the wilderness. They were previously marked as “GOD’s own people.” They saw the great miracles that GOD did, yet still became disobedient (Deuteronomy 1:34–35).
That whole generation perished in the wilderness, except Caleb and Joshua and the new generation that entered the Promised Land.
It is ONLY THE ALMIGHTY GOD YAHWEH and His Son Christ Jesus who have the discretion to remove the names of their own from the Book of the Living and make them part of those who are meant for hell (Exodus 32:33; Revelation 3:5).
Category 6: The sick who were treated by the doctor, and whenever they fall sick again, they always run back to the doctor
This category represents those who have confessed and received Christ Jesus as their personal Saviour (the Born Again).
Though they sometimes fall through unintentional sin, the stains on their white garments are continually washed by the Blood of Christ Jesus, until the time when He presents them to the Father as the Bride.
The Children of Righteousness presented by Christ Jesus are the ONLY ones worthy to inherit the Righteous Kingdom of THE ALMIGHTY GOD YAHWEH.
Conclusion: Which Category Am I In?
From this teaching of Christ Jesus, we see that humanity is divided into different “types of sick people,” but in the end there are only two final destinies:
Those who will live, because they have truly come to the Great Doctor, Christ Jesus, and remain under His care.
Those who will die, because they either refused Him, rejected Him after tasting His goodness, or never truly came to Him as He commanded.
The question to every reader is this: Which category are you in?
Are you among those who run to the Doctor, accept His diagnosis, and receive His treatment—those who are Born Again and continue to walk with Him?
Are you among those who call themselves healthy, yet have never come to Christ Jesus in true repentance and covenant?
Have you once tasted His goodness, but gone back to sin and hardened your heart against His voice?
Or are you one who knows you are sick, still lost in sin, yet sincerely longing to meet the true Doctor, Christ Jesus?
If you have never truly confessed and accepted Christ Jesus as your personal Saviour, this is the time to humble yourself before THE ALMIGHTY GOD YAHWEH. He has provided only one Doctor for the soul and only one Way to the Father.
We encourage you to carefully read the teaching “What It Means To Be Born Again and To Be Called a Christian” and to follow the guidance on how to enter into covenant with GOD YAHWEH through Christ Jesus. Also, seek further help on how to receive Christ Jesus as Saviour through the instructions given on our Receive Christ Jesus page.
At the end of it all, this key verse must echo in our hearts:
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” (Matthew 9:12)
